One-Hour Exhibition: Greek Funerary Sculpture
3:00 P.M. – 4:00 P.M.
Friday, January 29, 2016
Please meet in the museum's third floor office. No pre-registration is required, but space is limited. Admission will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
A large proportion of the original Greek sculpture that survives belongs to the realm of funerary art. Ranging from complex works in the round to relief slabs known as stelae, these monuments reveal more than just the Greeks' relationship with the deceased. Eric Beckman, doctoral student in classical studies and the IU Art Museum's graduate assistant in ancient art, will lead the discussion.
