Meet Artist-in-Residence Isabel Berglund
Danish artist Isabel Berglund uses the familiar, universal tradition of hand-knitting to create monumental public works that demonstrate the power of communal artistic endeavor. During this residency, Berglund conducts workshops in which participants knit side by side, creating a natural bond through a collective experience. By sharing patterns, techniques, and stories, the men, women, and children who join her artistic endeavors add their own threads to the history of craft and textile arts. Berglund then sews “patches” knitted in her workshops into a massive collage for a large-scale installation. See the sample installation of pieces made here. Drop in for Berglund’s knitting and crochet workshop during First Thursday.

Isabel Berglund's artist residency in Bloomington is made possible through a partnership between the Lotus Education and Arts Foundation, IU Textile Artist Association, IU Arts and Humanities Council, and the IU Eskenazi Museum of Art.
