First Thursdays

5:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M.
Thursday, October 6, 2016

Make sure to stop by the IU Eskenazi Museum of Art as part of the IU's First Thursday Festival! Just outside the museum doors will be a free festival from 5:00-7:30 p.m. with live entertainment and activities from all of IU's many arts organizations, including the Lilly Library, IU Cinema, Mathers Museum, IU Theatre, Grunwald Gallery, and much more: https://artsandhumanities.indiana.edu/campaigns/first-thursdays/index.html

For our First Thursday event at the art museum we will be celebrating our newly opened fall exhibition on contemporary Brazilian/American artist Vik Muniz. Known for re-creating images from pop culture and art history out of untraditional materials like diamonds, junk, garbage, thread, food, taking in this exhibition is a revelation. Find out more about the exhibition here: https://artmuseum.indiana.edu/media-kits/VikMuniz.html

You'll be able to play a fun I Spy game through the gallery, or take a guided gallery tour. You'll have an opportunity to paint with chocolate just like Vik Muniz in what is sure to be a wild art-making activity, all while listening to DJ White Light White Heath spin some of the best sounds from Brazil. There will also be live Latin guitar in the gallery, and a demonstration of the Brazilian martial art Capoeira right outside of the museum. Food and drink will be available for purchase. This event is free and open to the public, fans of all ages are welcome. Don't miss First Thursdays at Indiana University! See you at the museum!
